The Persistence of Vision

The core of the present title, the extended series around which the issue is built, consists of a series of collages by Joel Lipman entitled “10 Eye Lessons illustrated!”. Lipman also did the wrap-around graphic for the cover.

In addition to this work, Steve Harp contributes a series of works connected through allusions to video, and Al Ackerman appears with one of his mail art collages, among other works.

One piece in the print version cannot be adequately represented in a PDF file, unfortunately. A verbal description will have to suffice. Submitted by the mysterious Warren Ong, the piece is apparently a single page printed on both sides with an image of a hand reading braille. In fact this “page” is “hollow” in the sense that it is two layers of paper joined by a fold at the outer edge. The opposite (normally “opening”) edge of the press sheet is bound into the saddle stitch, leaving two one-half-inch apparently “clipped out” pages appearing a few pages later in the issue. Inside of the “hollow” page are images relating to vision and the persistence of vision in motion pictures, which can only be seen edge on, or faintly through the paper on the other side, whith the braille images appearing on top.
